DECEMBER DEC. 10 CLOVERFIELDOne way of marketing is the mysterious, cagey approach, and few have worked it better than Producer J. J. Abrams (ALIAS [TV], LOST [TV]) for his upcoming film, CLOVERFIELD. Well, some call it Cloverfield, but the latest poster calls it MONSTROUS. All we know so far is that it is a Big Horror giant monster movie. But reports are coming in from all over and we also have some video. Continued at /Cloverfield. TOMORROW'S DVDS TODAY! High Definition - Collections - 7 MURDERS FOR SCOTLAND YARD - From 1971 comes this Paul Naschy flick. It's really just a murder mystery, and mysteries are perfectly acceptable here. But the murders are all given a "broo-tall" gory edge so that some would consider them Horror and so add an extra Horror element & audience. It's not Horror or Thriller, it's just a meaner than usual murder Mystery of Jack the Ripper with grafted gore. BLOOD DESCENDENTS - Zombie rises from the grave to exact revenge on the descendents of the men who killed him. Seems that if you have the supernatural wherewithal to rise from the dead after 100 years, you have the ability to sharpen your target toward the people who KILLED you (wherever they may be), instead of their kinfolk. But that's just me. Written, Directed, and Edited by Steven Charles Castle (PREDATOR ISLAND). THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM - Bourne comes home with more camera shaking "WTF is going on?" action than ever before. FOOTSTEPS - A guy goes self-destructive, winds up making snuff movies, and begins to consider that - just perhaps - his lifestyle choices leave something to be desired. Written, Directed, Produced, and Edited by Gareth Evans. His first feature length movie. HACK - Two-rabid Horror fanatics want to make their own "Reality-based" Horror film. Luckily for them, they own a small remote isolated island. Luckily too, that just as they want to make their movie, a group of college kids on vacation happen upon said island to do some "extra credit" work. Well, its not so lucky for the students, but you can't please everybody! Stars William Forsythe (THE DEVIL'S REJECTS, Rob Zombie's HALLOWEEN) HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX - Please read our review. SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT - A marketing campaign of orchestrated outrage and controversy made this movie a mild winner during a mild winter in 1984. Promoting the film on the Phil Donahue Show, Producer Ira Richard Barmak chuckled as he told the audience that the part where the Catholic Priest gets killed by Santa, was particularly funny to him. Ira was immediately offended, however, when an audience member asked him a rather obvious question: "Would you find it just as funny if the victim was a "representative" of your religion? Ira was so offended by the very idea that he could barely speak for several minutes. His sudden shocked silence brought on by an audience he was trying, himself, to offend, was rather funny to see. Look for the video online. SUFFOCATION - From China and 2005 comes this off beat Horror Thriller. A schizophrenic musician starts to wonder if he may have murdered his cheating wife. Due to the nature of his madness, the passing thought soon obsesses his every waking moment, driving him ever deeper into madness and hysteria. I'm telling ya: it's no fun to be around a schizophrenic! But did he actually do it? THRESHOLD - When it comes to Horror movies, Stephen J. Cannal makes some really good cop and detective shows. UNDEAD OR ALIVE - Wow! A zombie comedy movie from 2007 that no one heard of; AND it stars SNL hotshot Chris Kattan! What d'ya wanna bet that this flick is a real ripe winner? Directed by Glasgow Phillips, whose main claim to fame is that he wrote most of the 2002 season of South Park. THE UNDERTAKER AND HIS PALS - From 1966 comes this Horror Cannibal comedy starring James Westmoreland (DON'T ANSWER THE PHONE). And On Sunday - And you thought he was all about Star Trek. A new birthday boy makes it to the wish list with his decade plus time in the realm of Horror, Thriller, Mystery, and Suspense. True most of his work is for children, but kids deserve to be scared too! So Happy Birthday to Actor Michael Dorn (DEMON SEED, GARGOYLES [TV], STAR TREK: FIRST CONTACT, STAR TREK: NEMESIS, THE PROPHET'S GAME, SHADOW HOURS, SHADE, DESCENT [TV], DANNY PHANTOM [TV], A.I. ASSAULT, FALLEN ANGELS, NIGHT SKIES, THE DEEP BELOW) is 55. And On Saturday - Make-up Artist Rick Baker (IT'S ALIVE, SQUIRM, KING KONG [1976], THE INCREDIBLE MELTING MAN, THE FURY, THE HOWLING, THE FUNHOUSE, AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON, VIDEODROME, WOLF, ED WOOD, THE FRIGHTENERS, MEN IN BLACK, MIGHTY JOE YOUNG [1998], PLANET OF THE APES [2001], MEN IN BLACK II, THE RING, HELLBOY, CURSED, THE RING II, X-MEN: THE LAST BRETT RATNER MOVIE I'LL PAY TO SEE, and way more) who is 57. Also check out Rick Baker's latest pick at TrailersFromHell.com. Actor David Carradine (THE RAGE, DEATH RACE 2000, LIGHT SPEED, SUBLET, CHILDREN OF THE CORN V, PUZZLE IN THE AIR, ZOO, KNOCKING ON DEATH'S DOOR, NATURAL SELECTION, KILL BILL VOL. 1, DEAD & BREAKFAST, KILL BILL VOL. 2, THE LAST SECT) is 71. Actor Dominic Monaghan (HOSTILE WATERS [TV], THE LORD OF THE RINGS [all], LOST [TV]) is 31. Look for his upcoming horror Thriller for 2008, I SELL THE DEAD. Actor Mary Woronov (KEMEK, SUGAR COOKIES, "SILENT NIGHT, BLOODY NIGHT", SEIZURE, DEATH RACE 2000, JACKSON COUNTY JAIL, EATING RAOUL, NIGHT OF THE COMET, THE MOVIE HOUSE MASSACRE, HELLHOLE, TERRORVISION, CHOPPING MALL, WARLOCK, THE HALFWAY HOUSE, FROG-G-G!, THE DEVIL'S REJECTS, and far more) is 64. Mary also shares a birthday with fellow Death Race alumni, John Carradine.
DEC. 7 From Del Howison I AM LEGEND - FOR THE FOURTH TIME My I AM LEGEND news page is up with links to all of the best stories popping up on the Internet. Including a pre-rating system on why the movie may be good or bad. If you are betting on this film, I'll tell you what your chances are. Plus reviews of past movies based on Richard Matheson's immortal story, I AM LEGEND. Check out the I AM LEGEND sequels page. Actor Emily Browning (GHOST SHIP, DARKNESS FALLS, LEMONY SNICKET'S: A SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE EVENTS) is 19. Look for her upcoming Horror Thriller film, A TALE OF TWO SISTERS, expected in 2008. I hear people say, "Whatever happened to actor C. Thomas Howell?" and they mean it in one of two ways. For the ones who wonder if he fell off of the map, I have to tell you that he's made over 25 movies in just the last five years of the new millennium. Granted they were nearly all B movies (Howell won't be winning any Oscars soon), but the man keeps busy. For the ones who have seen him and wonder why he aged so fast, according to imdb.com, Howell suffered from a ruptured appendix in 2003 which nearly cost him his life. He was hospitalized for four weeks in a year that still saw him make three movies! What's more, since 2000, Chris (his first name) has turned his career toward Horror Thrillers. So Happy Birthday to Actor C. Thomas Howell (THE HITCHER, TREACHEROUS, DARK REFLECTION, PAYBACK, KINDRED: THE EMBRACED [TV], PURE DANGER, ASYLUM DAYS, NURSIE, NET GAMES, THE HITCHER II, THE LOST ANGEL, THE HILLSIDE STRANGLER, A KILLER WITHIN, H.G. WELL'S WAR OF THE WORLDS, GLASS TRAP and more) who is 41. Howell has made over two movies for every year of his life.

DEC. 5 From Bryan Baugh It took a while, but WULF AND BATSY was picked up as a bi-monthly series by Viper Comics. Check out the preview page. From Missy Schwartz and EW INTERNET RUMOR NO MORE You've heard, seen, and read the rumors on the Internet. Christian Bale (AMERICAN PSYCHO, REIGN OF FIRE, EQUILIBRIUM) is going to be in the next TERMINATOR movie and he might even be the TERMINATOR. Will the future of the TERMINATOR movies be what Christian Bale makes it? Entertainment Weekly and Missy Schwartz go straight to the sources, the producers, Derek Anderson and Victor Kubicek. Continued at EW: 'TERMINATOR' Secrets Revealed! YOU MIGHT FEEL A LITTLE PRICK My short story collection NEEDLES & SINS was released last month from Necro Publications, and now you can read a story from the book for free online! The title story, "Needles & Sins" was a vignette that I wrote once the book was almost complete - the layout was done, the book was titled, and one day the book's title inspired the story. It became the leadoff tale in the collection, which includes 17 other horror and dark fantasy stories, some previously published, some original to the collection. I hope you'll check out the book; I think it includes some of the best short stories I've written over the past decade -- and three of them received Honorable Mentions in various Year's Best Fantasy and Horror anthologies. Read "Needles & Sins" HERE. From Ted Dekker So, be sure to pick up your copy at your local store, or visit us online to grab a copy. And while you're at it, why not introduce a friend to Ted and the world of the Histories? Chosen and Infidel make great gifts for that special someone who's hooked on bad reality TV and needs to rediscover what adventure is all about. They'll thank you for it. Find the Book, Win the Chevy! What happens when the world of Ted Dekker escapes the pages and invades our reality? Dekker fans everywhere are about to find out. In early 2008, we will launch a nationwide treasure hunt, in partnership with Chevy and Thomas Nelson, that brings the quest for the Lost Books of History into our world. It will be unlike anything you've seen before, because the search is for an actual Book of History. You read that right...a real Book of History is out there (this is Ted Dekker, after all, so don't be surprised to find out that the "real book of history" turns out to be The Bible - Feo). And someone will ultimately find it. Maybe you. The story will unfold online and plunge players into a world of espionage and ancient secrets. Weekly prizes will be won along the way, and the person who finds the Book will win our Grand Prize - a 2008 Chevy Cobalt. Registration begins in January, and the search begins in March. Keep your eyes on Teddekker.com for updates, because more information is coming very soon. And maybe a few glimpses of what's to come. Also, the next time you're on the site, be sure to check out our latest poll. We'd love to hear from you. From Creation Featured guests for Austin, Texas, include and more! DEC. 4 QUICK BITE
From F. Paul Wilson 11/6 - well, today I did it: I signed up for the Romantic Times Booklovers Convention. Do I write romances? Yes, in the classic sense (as opposed to mimetic fiction). But the audiences on my last tour drove home an important fact to me: I have a hell of a lot of women readers. When I started the series I figured the market would be 90% male, but at every stop at least half the crowd was female: teenagers, retirees, and every age between. Come WFC I'm hanging at one of the small press parties when Alexandra Sokoloff (her novel THE HARROWING is excellent, btw) says, "You have got to go to RT. They'll love you there." That starts me thinking how RT is a major convention for women readers. Yes, romances are their fave, but they read everything. I called Heather Graham (the author, not the actress) and she agreed with Alex: Go. So I'm going. I may wind up a fish out of water, or I may hook a whole new audience on Jack. We'll see. 11/9 - received an offer from Bulgarian publisher Riva for LEGACIES. Not a big offer. Wait, let me check my door. Nope, no other Bulgarian publishers waiting on the stoop. Guess I'll go with Riva. 11/23 - Chris Ryall from IDW emails me that they've received an offer from Wetta Worldwide for French language rights to THE KEEP graphic novel. He wants to know if I accept the terms. Wait, let me check my door. Nope, no other French publishers waiting on the stoop. Guess I'll go with Wetta. (This is the last time I'll do this, I promise.) 11/26 - a while back I volunteered to be a mentor for the International Thriller Writers 2008 debut authors. They chose me as their December mentor, and today I received a list of questions they'd like me to answer - mostly about how to manage a series character and how to sustain a career. Serious stuff. Doesn't anyone want to know my favorite color? In connection with mentoring ITW's debut authors, here's a brief article about how I got started. 4) PUBLISHING SHEDULE 2007 - 2008 February May June October November Follow the link for the rest of my current fiction. DEC. 3 TOMORROW'S DVDS TODAY! High Definition, Collections - BATTLESTAR GALATICA: RAZOR - Not just science fiction, but an entire race of robots set out to destroy humanity! If that ain't a science fiction creature feature, what is? Don't tell me. I know what is. The question was rhetorical. CARRIE - re-packaged is all. Nothing special here. Please read the review. DARK MIND - From Russia comes this Science Fiction re-telling of Gaston Leroux's PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, only instead of a musician and an opera, it's an inventor and his invention. SHIRA: THE VAMPIRE SAMURAI - As if the powers of a vampire weren't bad enough, this one has a black belt and carries a sword! STIFF ODDS - Sounds like porn, but actually, it's the story of Death; who likes to gamble but doesn't like to lose. WEREWOLF: THE DEVIL'S HOUND - Uh... shouldn't that be, The Devil's Wolf? Hounds are different looking, you know? I mean, turning into an old hound dog at the full moon REALLY takes the romance out of the legend. Actor Julianne Moore (sLAUGHTERHOUSE II, TALES FROM THE DARKSIDE, CAST A DEADLY SPELL, THE HAND THAT ROCKS THE CRADLE, BODY OF EVIDENCE, THE FUGITIVE, SAFE, THE LOST WORLD: JURASSIC PARK, PSYCHO [1998], HANNIBAL, EVOLUTION, THE FORGOTTEN, FREEDOMLAND, CHILDREN OF MEN, NEXT) who is 47.
