Shadow Falls
There are towns in which you look for something, and there are towns in which something is looking for you. Welcome to Shadow Falls, a town where, in 1981, a young surgeon makes a discovery that never should have been found. This once-bustling lake town is driven into obscurity as the horrific events of the subsequent few years drive away any resident lucky enough to be left alive.

Each of the eight episodes of “Shadow Falls: Volume 1” runs from five to 12 minutes, and unfolds through a sequence of vignettes—not necessarily in chronological order—as characters emerge through a quirky regimen of oddity and horror. Viewers are taken on a circuitous path, where objects, people and dialogue are all hidden clues to the ultimate mystery of Shadow Falls.

BEOWULF: A NEW HYBRID FOR AN OLD TALE
Bill Desowitz uncovers what new wrinkles Sony Pictures Imageworks came up with in conquering BEOWULF, the new performance capture hybrid from Robert Zemeckis.

When director Robert Zemeckis was in the middle of riding The Polar Express a few years back, he already knew that he would make Beowulf in the same performance capture hybrid method. Fortunately, the technology has improved enough to pull off his adult animated vision of the oldest surviving example of Anglo-Saxon heroic poetry - meaning a lot more realism.

Sony's recent release of a two-disc DVD edition of Bram Stoker's Dracula brought back memories. And anticipation. Till now, there was only the one-disc edition, with no special features. No deleted scenes. Not "making of" documentaries.

Why my anticipation?

Because I spent some of the 1990s working as a film and TV extra, and my first gig was on Bram Stoker's Dracula.

VACATION BY SHIPP
I'm a fiction author whose written creations inhabit various magazines, anthologies, and drawers. These include over 30 publications, the likes of ChiZine, Bare Bone, The Harrow, Flesh and Blood, Until Someone Loses an Eye, and Darkness Rising. While preparing for the forthcoming collapse of civilization, I enjoy living in Southern California in a moderately haunted Victorian farmhouse with my life partner, Lisa. I'm currently working on many stories and novels and I'm losing my hair, though not because of the ghosts. VACATION, my first published novel, debuted this year from Raw Dog Screaming Press.

The script I wrote entitled "EGG" is going to be made into a short film. Here’s a note from the director, Jayson Densman: "Hey everyone, this is Jayson of X-1 Productions here in Dallas. Jeremy has seen fit to trust my little company with these 11 pages of his and to flesh-out this thing as a short film. The story itself is fascinating, dark and twisted in a way that is not unlike such creators as Serling, Bradbury and Lynch...yet still maintains that surreal and unnerving blend of psychological disturbances and imagery throughout the entire story. The source of tension in EGG is not developed thru usual plot structures and devices. ...and the rest is a mystery until it's released. We start principal photography at November's end and EGG's premiere is slated for the 2nd week of January. We have hopes for the big festivals and slots with IFC, Sundance, etc. Thanks to everyone for the support!"

On November 29, I'll be flying to Texas for some of the filming of EGG, and I'll be doing some book signings while I'm there. Here's where I’m going. I'd love to see you there.

John Everson's third horror and dark fantasy short story collection, Needles & Sins was released last month by Necro Publications. The book includes some of Everson's best work of the last decade, including 3 stories that received Honorable Mentions in the Year's Best Fantasy and Horror anthologies, a couple pieces reprinted from long out-of-print Delirium books, as well as a half dozen brand new stories (including two pieces that wrap up my previous trilogy of tales about Barnett & Staley's Circus - the whole 5-story cycle appears at the end of Needles & Sins).

THIS HOLLOW SACRAMENT - Another serial killer as Horror movie, yes, but this one is based on a true story and director Greg William Stechman attempted to stick as close as possible to the facts of the crimes. he also brought reali-life Crime Scene Investigaros onboard to serve as consultants. Aka THREADING DARKNESS

WHISPER - Probably not the best idea to kidnap and hold for ransom a boy who is known for his psychic powers.

WINTER KILLS - Political Thriller from 1979 that is still entertaining after all these years. Stars Anthony Perkins (PSYCHO) and Jeff Bridges (TRON). From the novel by Richard Condon (THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE).
