APRIL 27 ILLUMINATING HORRORPaul Kratka will be returning in Scott Goldberg's new political horror short, ILLUMINATED which touches base on such subjects as the Illuminati and New World Order. The film also features Robert Youngren (The Forest Hills). Principal photography has begun. Paul is known best for the character of Rick in Friday the 13th Part 3 and Illuminted will be his second film with filmmaker Scott Goldberg. The Day They Came Back, which featured Paul Kratka as Detective Jason Ronner, has won numerous awards at film festivals and was Paul's first film with Goldberg.

Okay, the fact is that I have many adult friends who think that the old Scooby-Doo cartoons were nothing more than product marketed unmitigated crap. At the same time, and with a hint of shame, they'll also admit that, as kids, the damn cartoon babysat them for a up to a good hour or so every Saturday morning. No doubt, in another 20 years, there will be a world famous paleontologist who'll fess up to being influenced by Barney the Purple Dinosaur, as a baby. So with so many contemporary Horror and Mystery fans and writers acknowledging early inspiration from the cartoon, I'd be remiss to leave it out of the loop. One other, particularly important thing about Scooby-Doo and that is: The entire show was based upon the idea that there really weren't any ghosts, monsters, or other supernatural entities. If you used your head, were reasonable, rational, and looked deep enough, you'd find an unsavory character behind the mystery; looking to take criminal advantage of frightened or gullible people ("Yeah, and I would have gotten away with it too: If it wasn't for you rotten kids!"). A solid life lesson well taught to the young masses. So if you
were a childhood fan of Scooby-Doo, maybe you really shouldn't feel that
bad about it. And while we're on the subject, here is a Happy Birthday
to the voice of Scooby's best pal, the perpetually frightened Shaggy.

COLOMBO: MYSTERY MOVIE EDITION - From 1989 comes this 3 DVD set of Peter Falk's 4 feature length TV movies. DÉJÀ VU - Tony Scott, great director. Denzel Washington, great actor. Put these two together, the bottom falls out and it takes the entire planet - and sometimes DVD sales - to make their pictures profitable. I'm not saying they don't make good movies together, I'm saying they don't make movie magic together. The idea behind this Thriller was pretty good - in 1948 during the Golden Age of Science Fiction. Don't blame the writers though, their resumes are largely confined to writing animated cartoons for pre-pubescent children. EL GRITO DE LA MUERTE - aka THE LIVING COFFIN (though properly translated as The Scream Of The Dead), is a pretty cool Mexican Horror Western from 1959 based on Edgar Allen Poe's THE PREMATURE BURIAL. Still creepy even today. EL HOMBRE Y EL MONSTRUO - aka The Man and The Monster (translated properly). Another Mexican Horror movie from 1959. I know nothing of this one though. Imdb.com calls it a retelling of the Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde tale. They also say it is about a piano player who sells his soul to the devil to be a better musician. Which puts it more in line with Faust. NAKED YOU DIE - Back in 1968, when Italian Horror Maestro, Mario Bava, was a writer, he co-wrote this! Now if you are a Horror fan, I say you should buy everything the man touched! But that's just me. THE PIANO TUNER OF EARTHQUAKES - It's a dark fantasy. It's a lot of things, but mainly it is very, very weird. We welcome weirdness! SECRET WINDOW - Stephen King's novel come to life and starring Johnny Depp, gets another DVD release in time for the upcoming Johnny Depp Disney Caper, PIRATES OF THE yadda yadda. If you loved this movie the first time, but never got around to buying it, here's your lucky break. Written for the screen and directed by David Koepp (APARTMENT ZERO, JURASSIC PARK, THE LOST WORLD: JURASSIC PARK, STIR OF ECHOES, SPIDER-MAN, WAR OF THE WORLDS). THR3E - Christian Horror writer, Ted Dekker's novel went to the screen and vanished without a trace in about a week - and that was a pretty good run for a Christian Horror movie. With a screenplay by Alan B. McElroy (HALLOWEEN 4, SPAWN, WRONG TURN) and directed by Christian Horror movie director, Robbie Benson (THE VISITATION), THR3E is now available on DVD. TRINITY BLOOD - Season 1 of the Japanese Vampire anime now available.
