THE MAMMOTH BOOK OF BEST NEW HORROR IS DEAD . . . LONG LIVE BEST NEW HORROR!

Not long after celebrating the record-breaking publication of the 25th annual edition of THE MAMMOTH BOOK OF BEST NEW HORROR: Volume 25 edited by Stephen Jones, Constable & Robinson has announced that it is cancelling the award-winning series due to a lack of support from American co-publishers.
"After twenty-five outstanding years, it is with great sadness that we are left with no option but to bring down the curtain on Stephen Jones' long-running, landmark annual BEST NEW HORROR series (originally co-edited with Ramsey Campbell)," says Robinson Publishing Director Duncan Proudfoot. "Co-published in the United States, by Carroll & Graf to begin with, and more recently by Perseus imprint Running Press, THE MAMMOTH BOOK OF BEST NEW HORROR has celebrated and documented the changing world of horror fiction for a quarter of a century for thousands of readers in many different countries. THE MAMMOTH BOOK OF BEST NEW HORROR will be sorely missed by Robinson, but a future annual collection of a different kind from Stephen Jones remains a distinct possibility."
Meanwhile, multiple award-winning independent imprint PS Publishing has announced that it will be taking over the BEST NEW HORROR series with volume #26, due out in hardcover (and subsequently paperback) towards the end of 2015. PS is already reprinting the first five volumes of BEST NEW HORROR
(co-edited by Jones and Ramsey Campbell) in revised and updated paperback editions during the title's anniversary year, and the imprint is also publishing a signed, limited hardcover edition of the 25th volume in the new year as well.
"To say we're delighted by PS Publishing's acquisition of horror fiction's 'Best Of' is an understatement of almost Biblical proportions," says PS co-publisher Peter Crowther. "In a morass of so-called experts (FeoNote - Bah! Stupid Horror experts! They're all a bunch of... hey... wait a minute!) and a plethora of annual reprint volumes, Stephen Jones' BEST NEW HORROR shines like a beacon through the gloom that hangs over the much-maligned field of horror literature. We look forward to taking this title to new heights and to working with Steve on many other exciting projects in the coming year."
"As disappointed as I am that Robinson could not continue the series with support from a US partner," says editor Stephen Jones, "from the late Nick Robinson's initial enthusiasm to create a 'Year's Best' horror anthology back in the late 1980s, up to working closely with my current in-house editor Duncan Proudfoot, my relationship with Robinson has always been a wonderful experience and I look forward to collaborating with them on many other projects going forward.
