Yall are used to expecting no updates on the weekend and I've spent this whole week preparing for my weekend roadtrip to Burbank, CA to meet up with the 4x4 crew at Del's Dark Delicacies bookstore. Thanks go out to Michelle Vanvleet, Shannon, Mario, and Chris at Enterprise car rental in Sierra Vista, AZ for getting me a good deal for the weekend.

DECEMBER DELICACIES LIGHTS THE DARK
For the past seven years, Burbank's bookstore Dark Delicacies has presented its traditional charity offering. Two years ago, it was THE HORROR WRITERS COOKBOOK. This year, it's THE ALTRUSITIC ALPHABET, edited by "Gomez and Morticia" Howison. This book features the talents of 40+ horror writer and artists including

KCONLINE EXPLAINS
A few days ago, in an article called "KCOnline Kneels To Censorship?", we published Shane Staley's announcement of the troubles he was having with his website/company, Delirium Books, and his web server company, KCOnline.

Shane has now sent us a follow-up letter from KCOnline which explains their position, as well as well as the "complaint" letter that started it all from a person calling themselves, "Ed Grimm".

NOVEMBER SHADOWS LEADS TO DECEMBER'S DARK TREATS
AUSTIN CITY HAS NO LIMITS! Not to let the happenings of a rich November pass away without note... While Mojo-Texas writer Joe R. Lansdale was officially in Austin, Texas, the weekend of November 15-20 for the Texas Book Festival, he allowed friend (and co-editor of WEIRD BUSINESS) Rick Klaw to drag him along to the Austin Hilton North for the goings-on of the 23rd ArmadillioCon. Besides visiting with old friends Scott Cupp, Neal Barrett, Jr., Bill Crider, and others, Lansdale also managed to get sucked into serving on a panel. HISOWNSELF may have been in town to sign his newest Hap & Leonard novel, CAPTAINS OUTRAGEOUS, but he also put in plugs for his upcoming novels, FOR A FEW STORIES MORE (Subterranean Press) and the two new ones he's writing for his new publisher, Alfred E. Knopf.

NO STORM, BUT GROWING NICELY
We launched Stealth Press last November 1. At the time, there was a great deal of ballyhoo about e-books. Most of that has died down and there's some very interesting redaction going on about e-publishing among the so-called experts. Print evidently is not dead after all and e-books are not quite taking the world by storm yet. Well, we knew that, didn't we?

Stealth hasn't stirred up as much of a storm as we would have liked in the last year. We've had to revise a lot of our thinking on many subjects and, frankly, we've had to gain an education while on-the-job.

KCONLINE KNEELS TO CENSORSHIP?
It is with great regret that I have to announce that once again Delirium Books' website will be taken off its host server due to what the host's administration has termed Graphic Material, unsuitable for their web presence. Their decision was tipped off by a complaint about the website. This comes almost a year from when Tripod shut Delirium's website down for the same reason.

KC Online, which is currently the host server, is my only means of access to the internet, the only local dial-in number to be used in the area I reside, so this makes for a difficult decision. The administration has reviewed the site and highlighted both the e-zine and Gross-Out Tournament as unsuitable for their server, as well as certain message boards directly linked to the Delirium site.

Leisure has accepted Tom Piccirilli's novel THE NIGHT CLASS and will be reprinting the book in mass market paperback October 2002. What's more, the novel will have 10,000 more words than its limited edition Hardcover brother. Tom says the paperback will have no new characters or scenes, but "an enhanced horrific atmosphere."

SILVESTRI'S INFERNO
Later this month, Top Cow comics will release INFERNO, a comic that marks company founder Marc Silvestri's return to drawing a regular series. The premise is that Earth is being threatened by an invasion from Hell, and the military wants to send in a team of operatives to fight back. The only catch is that, to enter Hell, your soul has to be damned.

WELCOME FANBOY!
Screenwriter Christos N. Gage (co-author of THE BREED, TEENAGE CAVEMAN), a long time fan of the site could not bear to watch the Comics page die, so he has decided to take it over.

Hi, I'm Chris Gage, and I'll be the new captain of this electronic Flying Dutchman known as Feo Amante's Comics Page. Who the hell am I? Well, I'm a screenwriter and lifelong comics fan living in L.A. I ran across the mighty Feo Amante site when I heard it contained a nice mention of a movie I wrote (with my wife Ruth) called THE BREED (to be reviewed later this year). I wrote Eddie to thank him for the kind words and we got to talking, as fanboys are wont to do. When I found out the comics section of the site was about to go under, I decided I couldn't let that happen, and with a trembling hand, took on the moldy mantle of Fanboy of Fear! So, here I am, feeling like Martin Sheen in APOCALYPSE NOW when he asks a soldier who the commanding officer is, and the guy replies, "Ain't you?"

People in the Austin, Texas, area can forget plucking that turkey for now as Thanksgiving comes early with two author events happening during the same weekend. The Sixth Annual Texas Book Festival opens Thursday, November 15, at the Texas State Capitol. Slated to attend for readings and signings are a number of authors including that man from Nacodoches, Joe R. Lansdale, and his very good friend, Andrew Vachss. Both have new books to sign: for Lansdale, it's his latest Hap & Leonard mystery, CAPTAINS OUTRAGEOUS, while Vachss will put pen to title page on PAIN MANAGEMENT.

THE DEVIL'S BACKBONE
Guillermo del Toro, director of CRONOS and MIMIC, is releasing a new Horror movie through Sony Pictures this year.

THE DEVIL'S BACKBONE takes place during the Spanish Civil War. A ten year old child, Carlos (Fernando Tielve), is taken in by a school that shelters orphans of the Republican militia and politicians. While there he gradually discovers the secret of the school's ghost.

NO KIDDING, THANKS Y'ALL!
The Linux servers on which feoamante.com is hosted have processed their final hit count tally for the month of October, which is 212,166! That's nearly three times the number of hits we got in our first year (1999)!

I mean DAMN! The total hits counted for 2001 are more than double the entire amount for 2000 and we still have 2 more months to go! Add into the fact that from November of 2000 to March 15, 2001, feoamante.com was dead for recoding and design.

There were a number of doomsayers who said that, once dead, feoamante.com could never rise from the grave. So much for the "Can't" folk. The real reason for the success of this site is all of you visitors who come here to read and enjoy our work. On behalf of myself and our 35+ contributors: Thanks!

MASTERS OF TERROR 2001: The Anthology' is a brand new collection of stories available exclusively on the internet free of charge to readers. FEO AMANTE GETS A STOKER NOD
I just got an email today telling me that I have a Bram Stoker Award nomination. Wait, NOT a nomination as it turns out, only a recommendation. What's the diff? According to Chief Stoker Award Tallyman, Mikey Huyck,

"It's a Stoker recommendation - not a nomination. There's a big difference. Those 5 or so people in each category who make the final ballot...the one that goes out next April...they're the ones who can claim Stoker nominations. Everyone that's up there right now (myself included) is Stoker Recommended."

Okay, so I've been "Stoker Recommended". I stand by my assertion of "That's pretty cool". The rec' (My site's been wrecked!*) came from a fan of the site. That's hardly surprising. I wouldn't expect a bitter enemy to recommend me (now that I think of it, I don't actually have any bitter enemies - at least none that know me personally). So if any of you HWA members want to vote for feoamante.com getting a Stoker Award in Other Media, that would be pretty cool too.

FAMOUS MONSTERS IS ABOUT TO DIE
Forrey Ackerman's Famous Monster's Magazine had been a sorely troubled publication even before Ackerman gave it up for dead in 1984. It was revived in 1990 when Forrey joined with Ray Ferry to breathe life into the old varmint again.

SCREAMS FROM THE DARKE PALACE
Yvonne will be at the World Fantasy Convention in Montreal the first weekend of November. If you'd like to try to catch up with her there, her panel schedule is posted on the What's New page on the web site. She'll also be at the Author's Signing on Friday night. Alas, no readings this time around, so everyone'll have to wait for the next installment of MIRROR ME (which is, by the way, nearing completion).

BUFFY MANIA! The newest Buffy the Vampire Slayer project is out: TALES OF THE SLAYER, VOL. 1. This nifty trade paperback sports a gorgeous cover, and Yvonne has two stories in it, "die Blutgrafin" and "And White Splits the Night" (for a total in the neighborhood of 22,000 words or so). It's the first anthology about the Slayers who lived and died before Buffy was born.

Just published is the long-awaited CHILDREN OF CTHLULU anthology, which includes Yvonne's story "Meet Me on the Other Side." Also included in this H.P. Lovecraft-inspired anthology are tales by Poppy Z. Brite, Weston Ochse, Brian Hodge, Caitlin Kiernan, Steve Rasnic Tem, and just too many other talented people to list here.

THE GRIM RABBITS OF DARK TALES PRESS
The past few months have been grim for our press saleswise, despite our constant efforts to keep pulling rabbits out of our hats at the last minute to save ourselves. The last few rabbits, though, apparently suffered some sort of in-chapeaux trauma as they were quite dead and proved to be no help at all. Not something any company wishes to admit; nevertheless we are compelled to because of the operational changes it is imposing on us by default.

Award-winning author Bentley Little (THE TOWN, THE WALKING, and more) will be live and chatting in the horror chamber at About.com on Tuesday, October 23, beginning at 8:00 p.m. (EDT). Also, a long long time ago in a studio far, far away, Los Angeles or there abouts, Gak designed some characters for some guys with ideas. Then, for a long time nothing happened. OCTOBER RUSH OF FREAKINESS
Horror, Thriller, Mystery, and Suspense movies are not only becoming more prevalent, they's gettin' weird too.

6 movies are coming out in the next few weeks that put whole new spins on old standards.

Opening this week is FROM HELL, a largely fictional account of the Jack the Ripper saga (which was big for its time but is small potatoes now). The movie is created by the Hughes Brothers, known for their rappin' thug gangsta flicks than for period Horror pieces. All the same, with high profile weirdo Johnny Depp in the lead, its going to be something to see.

Speaking of gangsta rap, Snoop Dogg's BONES (Oct. 24) will be hitting the screens soon. 20 years after his death, Jimmy Bones is coming back to take revenge on the (now old farts) who done him in. While he's hanging around, he's also going to clean up the neighborhood. Wow! He's not only a vengeful ghost, but he's civic minded to boot!

"In light of current events, we are changing the name of the band to something more friendly, "Basket Full Of Puppies"." says Scott, Charlie, Frank and John of the band ANTHRAX.

That statement is a joke, but the band acknowledges that just making fun of their name sucks.

"In the twenty years we've been known as ANTHRAX", says their latest press release, "we never thought the day would come that our name would actually mean what it really means. When I learned about anthrax in my senior year biology class, I thought the name sounded "metal". Everyone in my neighborhood had a band with an "er" name, like "Ripper" or "Deceiver" or "Killers" and I wanted to be different. "Anthrax" sounded cool, aggressive, and nobody knew what it was.

HORROR AUTHOR STEVEN LEE CLIMER TO SPEAK AT WAYNE PUBLIC LIBRARY, DONATE BOOKS FOR LITERACY
Local Wayne, MI, author Steven Lee Climer will be reading from and signing copies of his latest novel, SOUL TEMPLE ("Scary, spiritual and, ultimately, heartwarming" ­ Publishers Weekly), at the Wayne Public Library on Monday, November 19, starting at 7:00 PM.

"I've been living in the Westland/Canton area for six years now," says Climer. "I absolutely love it here. Being asked to speak at the Wayne Public Library really means a lot to me."

In return for this honor, the critically acclaimed author will be donating copies of his books to the library in support of literacy. "Literacy, to me, is a form of magic," says Climer, whose novels and short stories often feature characters with more than a passing knowledge of that supernatural word. "It's magic that's within everyone's grasp. Reading lets you smell, taste, feel and hear another world. Literacy is not just about the mechanics of reading, it's about really hearing what the author is telling you through his or her story."

Climer teaches English at Davenport University, and works for Fry Multimedia, one of the top 20 Internet firms, in Ann Arbor. He's a graduate of Eastern Michigan University, and briefly studied for a Ph.D. at Wayne State University.

PICCIRILLI GETS GRAVE
In his latest newsletter, Horror and Mystery writer, Tom Piccirilli tells us that Leisure has given him a publication date for his first western novel GRAVE MEN; March 2002.

This ain't the first time that a Horror writer has written a Western as those fans of Heavy metal Magazine in the 1980s may recall the infamous Tex Arcana series of graphic novellas. Not only that, but who can forget Vertigo Comics excellent Weird Western Tales which came out in 2000 - 2001?

The cover for GRAVE MEN is on Tom's web site. Tom says that he's aware of the "even bigger stigma attached to the western field than to the horror genre", but reassures us that "this novel is fairly macabre and bizarre as well." Tom is hoping that his many fans will enjoy it. Hell! I don't see why not? He never let us down before!

Well, okay, he HAS recommended some pretty funky movies in the past, but . . .

OCTOBER BRINGS BAD KARMA
October 2 brings more than a full moon. It's also the day writer Douglas Clegg begins his third free serialized novel. This go-round it's an encore presentation of his novel BAD KARMA.

Available only to subscribers of his elist at Yahoogroups, BAD KARMA, as Clegg describes the story "is brutal. It is somewhat nasty. It is dark. It moves.

It is a very simple story of terror and pursuit. And it has a bit of a reincarnation story.... "It was originally written as the first of a series of books about Trey Campbell and his dealings at the Darden State Hospital for the criminally insane. I've written a second novel about Darden State, but have yet to decide where it should be published, but one day, it will see print."

RAW GETS REAL
The upcoming RAW anthology edited by Brian Knight and Monica J. O' Rourke is now in its final stages. Artwork is being done for the individual stories in the book.

How low will some people go to get attention? Think of the different sites that have been putting up fake photos of people standing on buildings overlooking NYC and the jet "PhotoShop" dropped in behind the smiling goof.

Or how about the falsified Nostradamus predictions? Or the B.S. Numerology reports? Or the "PhotoPaint" face of Satan in the clouds of NYC?

Funny how none of these charlatans, with all their mystic garbage, were able to divine the future from these myriad "warnings" prior to the event, eh?

None of the dead that John Edward claims to yap with on the Sci-Fi channel, thought it was worth letting him in on one of the greatest tragedies in U.S. history. In fact, its funny how he has never had an accurate prediction rate beyond 50-50 chance.
