The Navy asked me to create a picture that would stress the importance of Man Overboard drills. So I drew this. The image was used as a slide to be broadcast shipwide in case of an actual Man Overboard emergency: Until all were accounted for, there would be no television. The very first night it was used onboard the U.S.S. Ranger (CV-61), 5 sailors died in a Man Overboard for real. Since then, it has become a T-Shirt design. 1982 |
