Giant posters in the windows of their doors did far more to attract business from passerby during their off hours than any other form of print ad.
Other businesses that posted these big puppies in their windows could count on free passes (with a two drink minimum) from the club. Trying to make a name for yourself by using a moniker that already belongs to someone far more famous has got to be difficult. And it doesn't make things any easier for the artist/copywriter who needs to come up with the ad. Fortunately, this Dr. Gonzo had enough talent and accolades in his own right for me to pull it off without anyone ever thinking "Hunter Thompson".
Well, hopefully, not too much.
