Okay, so
this is one of those albums by an all female band that joins the intolerably
long line of girl metal bands that grouse one song after the other, one
album after the other, about how men are responsible for everything that
has gone wrong in their lives. Sound familiar? Sure it does! It's the same
thing you hear spilling out of the mouths of all those guys who blame
women for all of their problems. You can tell as soon as you open the CD, there is this drawing of somebody's butt (heh! heh! heh! heh! heh! heh! I said BUTT! heh! heh! heh! heh! heh! heh! So cool!) with a drawing of a gargoyle where the crack should be. Through this pic are the words: I
LOOK IN THE MIRROR I'll never figure out why women think Whore is an insult, when Stud or Player, which means the exact same thing, but for a guy, is such a compliment. So let's move past that, just like we move past the racial cliché alerts in Horror Movie - because if you can move beyond the bullshit, this is one damn good disk! I've ran away from a few psychopathic girlfriends that I may have stayed with (at least a bit longer) had they been able to express themselves with this much venom and power! And these goils is still underage and in Highschool! Yes, I know, one of their songs is called "Get Off (You Can Eat A Dick)", but as of this writing, they are still in highschool so cut some slack on their world view, right? I say this because KITTIE: SPIT ain't just a little p'tooie! SPIT hocks a freakin' tidal wave! Placing themselves firmly in the path of the new breed of Goth/Grindcore, KITTIE jams good and hard. Starting out with the title track, I must admit that my favorite song is the designated "hit" leader "Brackish" which is the fifth track with "Raven" being my second favorite. Lead singer and guitarist Morgan Lander can give herself enough range to go from very soft music box vocals to slam the top down bloodcurdling snarls of rage. Talena Atfield thumps the bass like a cardiac arrest while Mercedes Lander accompanies her on drums. Another thing. Talena doesn't sound like a bass player trying to be a lead guitarist, she sounds like a drummer on bass guitar, which I feel is the way it SHOULD be! You can listen to it once or you can listen to it a hundred times. Despite the fashionable kow-towing to the militant NOW ethic, KITTIE is the real deal and rocks with a vengence! 4 perplex Skulls
