What's that space video? It's really short, but we are going into space and landing on the moon or mars, and it looks all different? It looks like a real old training film or something. Like some government thing out of the 1950s? It's amazing!
David Sander's MAN CONQUERS SPACE - Teaser I Yes it is. At less than a minute, I've seen a grown man brought to tears when watching this film. Of course, that grown man truly believes in a future where humanity finally leaves its nest and takes flight. Humanity, science, and all our endeavors since retreating from space exploration in the 1970s, have turned inward. All of our technologies have stopped reaching out and instead, turn provide us with trivial past times, games, entertainment, and of course, to monitor and watch over us. MAN CONQUERS SPACE was released way back in 2001 by David Sander, through his company, Rendered Surfaces. This 47 second short was a mature, realistic vision of what movie producer, George Pal and studio Paramount, brought to theaters in 1958 in Conquest of Space. Unlike the goofy drama and veneer of science fiction respectability, David's Man Conquers Space, with his Chesley Bonestell inspired space vehicles, has a look and feel of an actual history. It's a beautiful future that could have been but never was and one we will never have.
George Pal's CONQUEST OF SPACE - Trailer UPDATE: Feb. 12, 2022 UPDATE: July 11, 2018 Why? This blog may provide a sad clue. So the David Sander contribution dies here. Other projects on this theme do not. MAN CONQUERS SPACE ... SOON, was a series of Collier Magazine articles long before there was a David Sander to use it for his retro piece. The same goes for the Chesley Bonestell spaceship designs that Sander used for his short film. There's a new website that apparently runs without David Sander's input, MORE LINKS Chesley Bonestell: A BRUSH WITH THE FUTURE There are more movies at the Feo Amante Theater. Go to NOW SHOWING!
