FEO AMANTE THEATER |
What's that space video? It's really short, but we are going into space and landing on the moon or mars, and it looks all different? It looks like a real old training film or something. Like some government thing out of the 1950s? It's amazing!
Yes it is. At less than a minute, I've seen a grown man brought to tears when watching this film. Of course, that grown man truly believes in a future where humanity finally leaves its nest and takes flight. Humanity, science, and all our endeavors since retreating from space exploration in the 1970s, have turned inward. All of our technologies have stopped reaching out and instead, turn inward to provide us with games, entertainment, and to monitor and watch over us.
Man Conquers Space was released way back in 2001 by David Sander, through his company, Rendered Surfaces. This 47 second short was a mature, realistic vision of what movie producer, George Pal and studio Paramount, brought to theaters in 1958 in Conquest of Space. Unlike the goofy drama and veneer of science fiction respectability, David's Man Conquers Space, with his Chesley Bonestell inspired space vehicles, has a look and feel of an actual history - and future - we will never have.
Man Conquers space is a dream project for David: A proof of concept for a complete feature film. As of 2011, still no one is biting on his screenplay, but I hope it won't be much longer before we see David's alternate history vision.
Got to Man Conquers Space.
