LOVERBOY - 1984
By Billy Ocean
from the album, Suddenly

Billy Ocean official website

What is that video with the black guy singing while two aliens in a bar have a shoot-out over an alien girl?

You're probably thinking of Billy Ocean's LOVERBOY from his album Suddenly.

Even as music videos go, this one was as far removed from the words and spirit of the song as could be, and yet the absolutely whacked out visuals, an obvious riff off of the Star Wars cantina scene, gave it a story that compelled the viewer to stay glued to the tune. The excellent creature effects didn't hurt it either.

While most of the alien heads were clearly static, it was the main characters that were so well done as to be believably alive!
