From JaSunni productions. A quick teaser taste of Jason and Sunni Brock's documentary on Uncle Forrest J. Ackerman. The short features interviews with Forrey Ackerman, Dan O'Bannon (ALIEN, DEAD & BURIED, HEAVY METAL, THE RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD, TOTAL RECALL, BLEEDERS), William F. Nolan (THE NORLISS TAPES, TRILOGY OF TERROR, TRILOGY OF TERROR II), and more. Check out the teaser at Ackermonster Chronicles. Also I'm a Horror Geek! I've got no problem with it. But what I love to see (though not necessarily buy), is books by non-Horror Geeks who try and bring all of their tenure or thesis to bear to explain the world of Horror fandom - or better yet, a subset of Horror fandom - to all the norms. Yes, please explain in over-wrought intellectual terms why I enjoy zombie movies! Describe the minutia of all of my deep psychological, philosophical, and politically meaningful baggage that I bring to a viewing of TOMBS OF THE BLIND DEAD or SHOCKWAVES. Check out this article from Reason online.
(FeoNote: For those of you living or visiting Chicago, IL on the last weekend in February, you may want to know about the following) Fangoria and Creation launch their latest Fango Con in Chicago. Starting on my birthday (you GUYS!) and running through to Feb. 25th, the Chicago Fango will feature guest appearances by the usual suspects as well as newbies like Shawnee Smith (THE BLOB [1988], SAW [all], THE ISLAND)
LOOKER - Novelist Michael Crichton (THE ANDROMEDA STRAIN, JURASSIC PARK, SPHERE, THE 13TH WARRIOR) tried his hand at directing with this Science Fiction Thriller that was both ahead of its time, and ahead of Crichton's skills. But who knew? At that point, Michael had scored huge with the trifecta of WESTWORLD, COMA, and THE GREAT TRAIN ROBBERY. While not one of his best, LOOKER is worth a look and you might like it. PREY - From Director Darrell James Roodt (CITY OF BLOOD, DRACULA 3000) comes this direct to DVD movie about a wannabe-cool Step-Mom who takes her new charges on the Worst! Vacation! Ever! How good is it? Well Roodt is one of those directors who drive critics absolutely up the freaking wall. He'll direct something like Sarafina or Cry the beloved Country one year, and then he'll direct something like To The Death or Dangerous Ground the next. SAW III - Good to the last and they should stop here. If you've seen the first two, you know the drill. Although the third one does pack a few surprises the ending makes it certain that any sequels that come after will suck. THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS: Collector's Edition - What can we say about this movie that hasn't already been said? Um ... start by reading the review. SLAUGHTER OF THE VAMPIRES - from Writer / Director Robert Mauri comes this 1962 feature which defines our So-Bad-It's-Good category. If you can't have a fun time with your friends making fun of this movie, you need to get new friends. UNKNOWN - This unknown indie from 2006 has a pretty fascinating premise actually. Five men wake up in a toxic warehouse with high tech locks. Revelation after revelation occurs expanding each man's awareness of how they go there, and the growing suspicion that not all of them are prisoners: some may be the captors.
And on Sunday Writer / Director Frank Darabont (THE WOMAN IN THE ROOM, A NIGHTMARE ON ELMSTREET 3, THE BLOB [1988], THE FLY II, FRANKENSTIEN, THE GREEN MILE) is 48. Stephen King's answer to John Carpenter's THE FOG, was of course, THE MIST. Frank Darabount is both writing for the screen as well as directing this movie. This will be a huge departure for Frank, who usually only directs Stephen King prison movies. THE MIST is expected to have a 2008 release. Happy Birthday to veteran Horror Writer/Director Jack Hill (THE WASP WOMAN, THE TERROR, BLOOD BATH, HOUSE OF EVIL, SPIDER BABY, LA MUERTE VIVIENTE, THE INCREDIBLE INVASION, THE FEAR CHAMBER, DEATH SHIP) is 74. Writer Mary Sangiovanni (UNDER COVER OF NIGHT). Look for Mary's upcoming novels THE HOLLOWER and THRALL. Both have an expected 2007 release date. Mary wrote a review for us (MUTANT) before she became a MySpace friend, but now that she is, go visit her at MySpace.com/ TheWayDeadGirlsWhisper.

Jack Finney's infamous Science Fiction Horror novel about an alien invasion, INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS is being remade for a fourth time and will star Nicole Kidman. On Wednesday during a night shoot in Los Angeles, an accident occurred during a car chase scene where the effects truck carrying the car (and with many people riding on the car while Nicole was inside), skid too far while taking a corner, slamming into a streetlight. Everyone survived with the most major injury being a broken arm to one of the stunt people. Bragging rights, that. As usual with a night shot, the streets had been hosed down to reflect more light. That may have contributed to the accident, which is under investigation. For a look, check out the YouTube video below. Check out our reviews of past Finney movies: INVASION is set for a late 2007 release and also stars Veronica Cartwright (THE BIRDS, ALIEN) from the 1978 INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS. Fortunately, none of the people involved in the accident have become a vegetable.

JAN. 25 feoamante.com reviewer and best selling published novelist, Scott A. Nicholson has a new contest going in support of his latest novel, THEY HUNGER. Now before I send you over there, I know that there is more than a few of you who are squeamish. You love Horror Thriller because it invokes your deepest stomach turning feelings. In short, you liked to be grossed out. But unlike literature or rubber appliances in movies, what Scott Nicholson has to show you over at his site, and the prizes of his contest, is not something you read on paper. It's no special effect. Now you can own a piece of Horror author Scott A. Nicholson, and I mean literally. The three prizes in Scott's contest are parts of his body, and I'm not talking something easily dispensable like hair or even blood. Scott is offering three whole parts of his body that most people would rather not do without. He is serious. The body parts have already been removed. You will see the contest prizes in full color when you click on this link.
From Ed Peters The two-disc set not only features a brand-new widescreen transfer approved by director Gordon and remastered audio in Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 sound, but also sports two audio commentaries featuring Gordon, producer Brian Yuzna, actors Jeffrey Combs (Herbert West), Bruce Abbott, (Dan Cain), and Barbara Crampton (Megan Halsey), as well as a newly produced feature-length making-of documentary “Re-Animator Resurrectus.” In addition, the DVD features a casket-full of specially created bonus materials including new video interviews with cast and crew, deleted and extended scenes, trailers and TV spots, multiple still galleries, the original H.P. Lovecraft short story and screenplay adaptation on DVD-ROM! Adapted by Dennis Paoli, William J. Norris and Stuart Gordon from the H.P. Lovecraft short story, Re-ANIMATOR spins the strange tale of dedicated medical student Dan Cain (Bruce Abbot: BRIDE OF Re-ANIMATOR, BLACK SCORPION, THE PROPHECY II) and his girlfriend Megan Halsey (Barbara Crampton: FROM BEYOND), both of them drawn to odd new student Herbert West (Jeffrey Combs: FROM BEYOND, THE FRIGHTENERS, ABOMINABLE) who happens to be conducting clandestine experiments involving the re-animation of dead tissue. When one of the instructors, Dr. Carl Hill (David Gale: SYNGENOR), stumbles upon their “extracurricular” activities, West murders him (mumbling “Plagiarist” as he severs Dr. Hill’s head!) - but is brought back to life, now thirsting for revenge as well as lusting after Megan. The final denouement features the re-animated Dr. Hill squaring off against Herbert and Dan in a battle royale within the school’s morgue, complete with resurrected “henchmen” and undoubtedly one of the greatest visual double entendres in all horror cinema! When it was released in 1985, H.P. Lovecraft’s Re-Animator was immediately embraced by fans and the critical establishment as a watershed in contemporary horror films. Esteemed film critic Roger Ebert hailed the film as “…a frankly gory horror movie that finds a rhythm and a style that make it work in a cockeyed, offbeat sort of way.” The film won numerous awards including Best Horror Film at the prestigious Fantafestival and Sitges Film Festivals, as well as propelling Stuart Gordon into the pantheon of master horror directors, as seen by his participation in both seasons of Showtime’s “Masters of Horror” anthology series – H.P. Lovecraft’s DREAMS IN THE WITCH HOUSE for Season 1 (available on DVD from Anchor Bay Entertainment) and the upcoming “The Black Cat” for “MOH” Season 2. Anchor Bay left no grave stone unturned in exhuming extras for the H.P. Lovecraft’s Re-Animator Special Edition DVD, value-added supplements that exemplify the caliber of the “Anchor Bay Collection” brand: Brand-new remastered transfer, approved by director Stuart Gordon Widescreen Presentation (1.85:1), enhanced by 16x9 televisions Remastered Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 sound Audio Commentary with Director Stuart Gordon Audio Commentary with Producer Brian Yuzna and Actors Bruce Abbott, Jeffrey Combs, Barbara Crampton and Robert Sampson All-New 70-minute featurette: “Re-Animator Resurrectus” featuring interviews with Director Stuart Gordon, Producer Brian Yuzna, Writer Dennis Paoli, Composer Richard Band and Fangoria Magazine editor Tony Timpone, Actors Jeffrey Combs, Barbara Crampton, Carolyn Purdy-Gordon and Robert Sampson Music Discussion with Composer Richard Band (PARASITE, FROM BEYOND, THE ARRIVAL, DEMONIC TOYS) Deleted and Extended Scenes Theatrical trailer TV Spots New Production Stills from Brian Yuzna’s private collection New Behind-The-Scenes, Posters & Advertising, Storyboard and Fun-On-The-Set galleries Stuart Gordon Bio Screenplay (DVD-ROM) “Herbert West, Reanimator” by H.P. Do I even NEED to explain Tobe Hooper? THE Tobe Hooper? I think not. So let me merely say Happy Birthday to Writer/Director Tobe Hooper (THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE, HORROR HOTEL, SALEM'S LOT [TV], THE FUNHOUSE, POLTERGIEST, LIFEFORCE, INVADERS FROM MARS, THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE 2, NIGHT TERRORS, THE MANGLER, TOOLBOX MURDERS, MASTERS OF HORROR, and more) who is 64. Holy crap! We've never covered a Tobe Hooper movie? What the hell is wrong with us? That's it! February will be Tobe Hooper month at feoamante.com! Since a very young age, this actor has dedicated her career largely to Horror Thrillers and some pretty heavy dramas. INTO THE BREACH Inspired by true events, BREACH is a dramatic thriller set inside the halls of the FBI-the gatekeeper of the nation's most sensitive and potentially volatile secrets. When young Eric O'Neill (Ryan Phillippe: DEADLY INVASION [TV], CRIMSON TIDE, INVADER, CRUEL INTENTIONS, ANTITRUST) is promoted out of his low-level surveillance job and into the headquarters of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, his dream of becoming a full-fledged agent is on the verge of becoming reality. Even more impressive, O'Neill is hand picked to work for renowned operative Robert Hanssen (Chris Cooper: THE BOURNE IDENTITY, THE BOURNE SUPREMACY) within "information assurance," a new division created to protect all classified FBI Intelligence. But O'Neill is quickly confronted with the true reason behind his hire: Hanssen is the sole subject of a long-term, top-secret investigation, a suspected mole made all the more dangerous by the sheer global import of the information he is charged with protecting. The Bureau asks O'Neill to use Hanssen's growing trust and slowly draw the traitor out of deep cover. Engaged in a lethal game of spy-versus-spy without the benefit of a cover story or backup, O'Neill finds himself fighting to bring down Hanssen before the treacherous double-agent can destroy O'Neill, his family and the nation they are both sworn to serve. Following his success with the electrifying and acclaimed Shattered Glass, SUSPECT ZERO, and FLIGHT PLAN, writer/director Billy Ray explores more deeply the disillusionment and questionable moral mentorship of a young idealist in Breach. BREACH also stars Laura Linney (THE MOTHMAN PROPHECIES, THE EXORCISM OF EMILY ROSE), Dennis Haysbert (SUTURE, THE MINUS MAN, THE 13th FLOOR), and Bruce Davison (XMEN, DAHMER, X2). US DVD RELEASES TODAY - I grant you, while these aren't Sundance Film Festival quality movies about the beauty of child rape (HOUND DOG) and the romance of beastiality (ZOO), they aren't bad! HAPPY HORROR THRILLER BIRTHDAY TO -

Okay, so on TV she plays an angel, but in film she makes only Horror Thriller movies. Happy Birthday to Actor Beverley Mitchell (KILLING OBSESSION, THE CROW: CITY OF ANGELS, SAW II) is 26. Look for her in the upcoming 2007 Horror Thriller movie I REMEMBER. This movie, though finished in February of 2006, has been delayed due to the untimely death of writer / director / producer / actor, Joe Adams (DARK CITY, THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT 2, CABIN FEVER) and was just starting to really shine when a cardiac arrest did him in. So look for I REMEMBER. No Horror movie she has starred in has had anywhere near as much impact as her first. Happy Birthday to Actor Linda Blair (THE EXORCIST, THE EXORCIST II, HELL NIGHT, CHAINED HEAT, SAVAGE STREETS, RED HEAT, GROTESQUE, WITCHERY, THE CHILLING, DEAD SLEEP, REPOSSESSED, FATAL BOND, SORCERESS, SCREAM, ALL IS NORMAL) is 48. Actor Stephen Wozniak (PSYCHO BEACH PARTY, SCARECROW, EXORCISM, THE HOUSE IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE, THE ELIMINATOR, CHAOS) is 36. And On Saturday - You can make scary Horror movies and you can make gory Horror movies - you can even make supposed Horror movies that are actually neither. But this birthday boy consistently makes the creepiest Horror movies ever! Happy Birthday to Writer/Director David Lynch (ERASERHEAD, THE ELEPHANT MAN, BLUE VELVET, TWIN PEAKS [TV], LOST HIGHWAY, MULHOLLAND DR.) is 61.

From William Pattison The story takes place after the events in the film JASON GOES TO HELL. Jason has been sent to hell. A hunter digs up Jason's hockey mask and puts it on. He becomes possessed by the evil of Jason and terrorizes a group of campers who have decided to camp at the site where Camp Crystal Lake once existed. For Director/Producer Cory Stevens this has been a three year journey to translate Morse's young adult novel onto the big screen. But it has been a labor of love for this young film student, who has financed this film out of his own pocket. The production got an added boost when the author, William Pattison (who wrote the novel under his pen name Eric Morse), gave Stevens and the production his support. Pattison has joined the production as Executive Consultant and will be lending the production his voice talent in an important voiceover role. The production also features a cast of talented young actors. They include Mali MacConnell, Benjamin M. Santos, Corey A. Lucas, Dave Conte, Nicole Lillie, Stephen LoVerme, Allyson Smith. It also includes Paul Bradicich as old man Varner, and Derek Jimenez as the murderous the hunter, Joe Travers. Principle photography started during the summer of 2006. It is currently on Winter break and will finish in spring of 2007. The film will be released on the internet on April 13th 2007. Currently, there are three trailers available on the internet. Also the filmmaker has released two sneek preview scenes from film and a behind the scenes clip on the internet. These trailers, scenes, clips, as well as the script, stills, and cast and crew interviews can be seen at the Official movie page at: homestead.com/f13bloodbath/mothersdayfilm.html HAPPY HORROR

DESPERATE BUFFALOES (FeoNote - This was first reported back around November of last year, but yall may have forgot and now, well, it's gettin' to be around that time) Bestselling novelist Jeff Mariotte's (ANGEL: Old Friends) critically acclaimed, historically authentic horror/western series has seen its share of great art in the past. The book was co-created by artist John Cassaday, and from there, comics luminaries both veteran (John Severin) and newcomer (Jeremy Haun) have put pencil to paper in furthering their adventures. Now, the Desperadoes are saddling back up for another adventure, this time with artist Alberto Dose (Spider-Man's Tangled Web), for a four-issue miniseries about buffalo, the past, the future, and the mysteries of the universe. In DESPERADOES: Buffalo Dreams, we catch up with the Desperadoes in Lordsburg, NM, right where we left them at the end of DESPERADOES: Banners of Gold. As the group recollects themselves following their previous escapades, events soon conspire to draw them back onto the trail where they are mysteriously led to a rendezvous with the legendary Apache leader Geronimo. At his request, Giddeon Brood, his psychically gifted friend Abby DeGrazia, and the rest of their crew find themselves on a mission to investigate the cause of the dwindling buffalo herd. "Western comics have made a bit of a comeback in recent years, which I'm glad to see, and I'd like to think the acclaim for Desperadoes over the years had something to do with it," says Desperadoes creator Jeff Mariotte. "With Buffalo Dreams I hope to remind people that it takes more than hats and horses to make a real Western story: it takes a genuine understanding of the historical and mythical West and a willingness to do the necessary research. My ranch is smack in the middle of historic Western turf, in Geronimo's country, just down the road from Tombstone, and I'm a proud member of the Western Writers of America. I know the West and I think Alberto and I have come up with a tale that's both authentic and imaginative, that'll keep readers flipping pages to see what comes next - while confounding their expectations at every turn." IDW Publisher/Editor-in-Chief Chris Ryall added "Alberto Dose continues on the legacy of great art on Desperadoes titles, with a style reminiscent of Eduardo Risso and Marcelo Frusin, but entirely his own, too. Alberto's level of detail and skill really brings the Old West to life once again."
NIGHT OF THE LIVING DORKS BURBANK, CA – Anchor Bay Entertainment's commitment to finding the best horror films knows no geographic boundaries. On February 20th, Anchor Bay Entertainment brings the international zombie comedy hit NIGHT OF THE LIVING DORKS (Die Nacht der Lebenden Loser) to DVD for the first time in North America. Providing both stomach-churning horror and drop-dead hilarity, it's easy to see why Fantasticfest.com dubbed the German film “An audience favorite wherever it's been shown.” With many critics calling it “Shaun of the Dead meets American Pie,” Night Of The Living Dorks speaks the global language of gore and guffaws! In fact, it's so funny you'll laugh your schnitzel off! Written and directed by Matthias Dinter, Night Of The Living Dorks almost defies description. Philip (Tino Mewes) and his best friends Konrad (Thomas Schmeider) and “Weener” (Manuel Cortez) are the three biggest losers at Frederich Nietzsche High School. During a drive, their bong malfunctions, spewing smoke into their Scooby van and causing them to crash. After inhaling some ashes bought on eBay® that supposedly can raise the dead, the three friends become indestructible zombies with an insatiable appetite for human flesh, wild parties and gym class revenge. Anchor Bay presents Night Of The Living Dorks in German with English subtitles and Dolby Digital 5.1 audio, as well as an English-dubbed version in Dolby Digital stereo. In addition, viewers will find the following universally chilling bonus features on Night Of The Living Dorks DVD: Widescreen Presentation (1.85:1), enhanced for 16x9 televisions Interviews with Cast and Crew Behind The Scenes Footage Deleted & Extended Scenes Alternate Ending “Fun” Scenes English and German theatrical trailers
Hey, are you looking to the fifth installment of Thomas Harris (BLACK SUNDAY) series of Hannibal movies? I know I'm not. I loved the original Michael Mann MANHUNTER movie as well as Jonathon Demme's supreme, THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS. But though Ridley Scott has directed some of my all time favorite movies, HANNIBAL sure as shit wasn't one of them. MANUNTER remake, RED DRAGON, was only marginally better, but it is clear that no one who has been brought into the franchise since Demme has the grapes to do the series justice. HANNIBAL RISING might follow this tradition. The director is Peter Webb, known for his period dramas and romance movies. On the other hand, novelist Thomas Harris wrote the screenplay based on his novel. There is no telling what will happen in a case like that. HANNIBAL RISING is Produced by Tunis born Tarik Ben Ammar, known for his large body of French films and his American release of BALLISTIC: Ecks vs. Sever (Ick. Ick). And Martha Schumaker (SILVER BULLET, MAXIMUM OVERDRIVE, KING KONG LIVES, HANNIBAL, RED DRAGON). Launch the gag reflex (on the other hand, she also produced FIRESTARTER, CAT'S EYE, and BREAKDOWN). Also, Italian movie maestro, Dino De Larentiis, who has produced some truly great and some truly shit cinema. In short, this movie is a crap shoot. I'll let you know.
CANNIBAL CAMPOUT - From 1988, this movie can be described thusly: Crazy Kids Chew College Campers. Directed by Tom Fisher and Jon McBride (NIGHT THIRST, AMONG US). THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE: THE BEGINNING - did poorly in audience previews so New Line is kicking it Direct to DVD. Would it have done well in theaters? Tough call. Most New Line releases don't. Then again, most New Line Horror movies are shown to an audience made up of a wide range of people including those who specifically don't like Horror movies. I've personally participated in a number of Horror movie screenings and no one ever asked if I even liked Horror movies. Seriously, why would you not make sure that the audience you want to screen your horror movie to is comprised entirely of Horror movie fans? Why in the world would you want to re-edit your Horror movie due to the feedback of people who, because they don't like Horror, would never watch it anyway? And how can you possibly please the Horror audience that WOULD like your movie if only you didn't re-edit it to suit those people who prefer Romance Comedies or Crime Dramas? Most Horror movies today are really just slightly gorier Crime Dramas. Although New Line declares that it was "Too bloody, Too gory, Too intense for theaters.", maybe TCM: The Beginning just ain't that good. We'll see. WOODCHIPPER MASSACRE - There just haven't been enough good movies about people being fed into a Wood Chipper. FARGO you say? Sure, EVERYBODY says FARGO. Then you ask them for another example and their eyes glaze over. This gruesome cheapie from 1988 is not only horrendous, but its a comedy to boot! Written and Directed by Jon McBride (NIGHT THIRST, AMONG US), he's at it again with the orphans -turned-killers theme. HAPPY HORROR
