It also gained a following among critics (from People to Vanity Fair) who have hailed it as one of the best new series of the year.

YOU BURIED IT
Despite the word and hoopla about 3D technology, there were actually very few 3D movies released in 2010 (TRON: LEGACY, SAW VII). And of those that were sold at premium ticket prices as 3D, more than half of them weren't actually shot in 3D (CLASH OF THE TITANS, ALICE IN WONDERLAND, PIRANHA 3D). That said, 2010 was one of the worst years for theatrical box office. So guess where the "experts" are placing the blame?

Here's a hint: They aren't blaming 2010s overwhelming crop of ridiculously crappy movies, they are blaming technology.
